The History of J&G Bland of Haverfordwest
The history of J & G Bland (Motors) Ltd. began in 1875 when Mr G.J. Bland
purchased Lloyds Carriage and Wagon Works at 36 Bridgend Square, Haverfordwest. At that time it employed carpenters, wheel wrights, black smiths, upholsterers and painters and any type of horse drawn vehicle was built to the clients instructions.
After some years Mr G.J. Bland took his eldest son into partnership with him and this arrangement lasted from 1886 to 1891 when the partnership was dissolved and Mr J.A.Bland grandfather of the present managing director became the sole proprietor.

Whilst making four wheeled carriages, traps and other vehicles, he carried on business as a timber merchant and also hired out a horse drawn hearse to local undertakers, which had been built in the carriage works.
Blands registered their first car in 1905 and proceeded to act as motor agents for many makes of cars, lorries and a tractor firm for some years until in 1921 they agreed to be the agent for Morris cars and trucks for North Pembrokeshire. At this time his son Mr G.A.Bland joined the firm when father and son ran the business until 1930 when Mr J.A.Bland died. The Firm also acted as agent for Wolseley, Riley and M.G. which were produced by the same manufacturer.
This situation continued until the outbreak of war in 1939 when no civilian vehicles were manufactured until the end of hostilities in 1945. During these years repairs to both civilian and light military road vehicles were carried out.
In 1946 civilian vehicle production recommenced and Blands continued to sell Nuffield or B.M.C products until 1976 when the firm changed to selling Vauxhall Vehicles from its Bridgend Square site.
In 1987 the company moved into a completely new building on the site of the Churn works where the business is continued by Mr J.Alan Bland and his son Mr John.G.Bland, the fourth and fifth generations of the family.
